- An arborescent species with very large, thin leaves, intermediate between C. coccinea and C. mollis. Since it does not fit comfortably within either of these species, it is here maintained as a distinct species for the time being.
- Habitat
- Mature open forests of both stream bottom and upland sites. Rare; apparently restricted to the sw. mountains.
