- Collected as a waif in Albemarle County. Native of the Old World Tropics, and commonly introduced as a weed of sandy fields on the southeastern Coastal Plain from Texas to North Carolina. Its Virginia occurrence in the west-central Piedmont is considerably disjunct from its usual range.
