- Virginia and Kentucky are at the northern edge of the species' southeastern U. S. distribution. It is a member of the group of species with vicariant distributions in eastern Asia.
- Habitat
- FNA gives the habitat as: "Always on somewhat shaded humid rock surfaces, especially sandstones, conglomerate, and schist; moderate elevations (900-1000 m)". The sole Virginia specimen to date comes from a moist sandstone boulder along upper Bad Creek, Pine Mtn., Wise Co.
