A common midwestern dogwood, Cornus drummondii is reported as naturalized in northern Virginia by Simmons et al. in Castanea 85: 277-284 (2020).
Habitat
Currently known only from the City of Alexandria and Arlington County. In dry, gravelly soil along old railroad tracks, in wet ditches, and along edges of alluvial swamps, often forming extensive thickets. Believed to have been introduced long ago via the historical rail corridor.
