Common Name
Wedge-leaf Thoroughwort
Eupatorium cuneifolium Willd., in part
Flora of Virginia Name/Status
Eupatorium linearifolium Walt., in part
Eupatorium glaucescens is closely related to E. linearifolium Walt., both often having been lumped under the name Eupatorium cuneifolium Willd. FNA synonymized E. glaucescens under E. linearifolium, but the Flora of the Southeastern U.S. (Weakley et al. 2023) treats them as distinct species and attributes both to Virginia. An examination of online specimen images confirms their distinctiveness and presence in the state.
Sandhill woodlands and sandy clearings; several recent collections confirm that the species is extant in Virginia. Rare, s. Coastal Plain, known only from Isle of Wight County and City of Suffolk.
