- A much cultivated tree that has been documented as an escape in 13 southeastern states. Weakley et al. (2024) Flora of the Southeastern United States says ".... now naturalizing freely in suburban areas .... This species is a major new invasive species in the Southeast."

- Urban woodlots, planter beds, roadside thickets. Rare but often spontaneous near cultivated trees.
